QUESTION OF THE WEEK...

Q: DROPPED RACQUET: Does the player automatically lose the point if she drops her racquet?

A: No. If she drops her racquet and it touches the net, then she would lose the point because the racquet touched the net. Otherwise, play continues as she tries to regain control of her racquet. No one (either team) calls a let for a dropped racquet.

HAT or VISOR FLIES OFF: If a player's hat flies off (or a ball drops from her pocket) and lands in the court, only the opponent can call an immediate let. The opponent(s) cannot wait until the point is over to call a let. Neither doubles partner can call a let for a hindrance that a partner created. Note: A hat that is left on the court then becomes part of the court. If a ball in play hits the hat on the ground, it is still a live ball until the point ends.
